If you’re searching for Northern Michigan engagement session locations, you’re likely wondering where to take your photos — and when. The setting you choose shapes the mood, the light, and ultimately how your engagement photos feel for years to come.

Northern Michigan offers everything from Lake Michigan beaches and dune overlooks to vineyard estates, orchards, wooded trails, and charming downtowns. Some locations are best in summer. Others shine in fall. A few are especially strong in winter. And some seasonal blooms — like cherry blossoms and lavender — require more intentional timing.

This guide walks you through the best Northern Michigan engagement session locations by category, while also helping you think through season, wedding timing, and overall vibe so you can confidently narrow down what fits you best.

What You’ll Find in This Guide

This guide is organized by location type so you can quickly see what aligns with your vision and season:

• Lake Michigan beaches and shoreline locations
• Scenic overlooks and dune views
• Studios and garden settings
• Vineyards and estate properties
• Orchards and seasonal bloom locations
• Wooded trails and natural areas
• Charming towns and architectural landmarks

Each location includes notes on:

• Best season
• Walk time or accessibility
• Wind considerations
• Permit or coordination requirements
• Who the setting is best suited for

Whether you’re planning a summer engagement session, dreaming of fall color, or considering winter photos before a spring wedding, you’ll be able to see which Northern Michigan engagement session locations feel like the right fit.

How to Choose the Right Northern Michigan Engagement Session Location

Before narrowing down specific Northern Michigan engagement session locations, I always encourage couples to think through three things:

  1. When is your wedding?
  2. What overall vibe are you drawn to?
  3. How many locations do you want to include?

Start With Timing

If your wedding is only a few months away, that may influence which season your engagement photos take place in. If your wedding is further out, you may have more flexibility to choose a season that feels most aligned with your vision.

Some locations are especially strong in certain seasons. Cherry blossoms and lavender have short bloom windows. Vineyards are lush in summer and early fall. Orchard rows feel especially romantic in autumn. Evergreen-heavy locations work beautifully in winter.

Thinking about timing first helps narrow down which Northern Michigan engagement session locations make the most sense for you.

Then Consider Your Vibe

Are you drawn to dramatic overlooks? Soft florals? Clean architectural lines? Waterfront views? Something meaningful and personal?

Your preferred aesthetic paired with your season will naturally narrow your options.

Choosing One or Two Locations

Many couples choose two locations — typically one scenic setting and one more personal location. If you decide on two, try to keep them within about 10–15 minutes of each other. Drive time cuts into your best light, especially in Northern Michigan where sunset timing matters. Staying close together keeps your session relaxed and unhurried.

A Few Practical Things to Keep in Mind

• Wind can be significant at dunes and beaches.
• Some locations — especially within Sleeping Bear Dunes — may require permits or park passes.
• Cherry blossoms and lavender blooms are short, weather-dependent windows.
• Travel time matters more than most couples expect.

With that in mind, let’s walk through some of the most beautiful Northern Michigan engagement session locations and what makes each one unique.

Lake Michigan Beaches & Coastal Views

Northern Michigan is known for its shoreline for a reason. These locations offer soft sand, open skies, and that effortless Lake Michigan light that feels romantic and timeless. If you’re drawn to movement, open horizons, and sunset glow, this category may be the perfect fit.

Good Harbor Bay Beach (Sleeping Bear Dunes Area)

One of my absolute favorites. Good Harbor offers a wide, open beach with beautiful natural waves and that classic Sleeping Bear Dunes feel. What makes this location especially strong is the variety within one setting — shoreline, beach grass, grassy dune areas, and subtle greenery all within walking distance.

You can see this location in action in Wyatt and Alicia’s Northern Michigan beach engagement session at Good Harbor Bay Beach, where we leaned into the open shoreline and soft evening light.

Best for: Couples who want a romantic coastal look with multiple backdrops in one location.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Parking is typically manageable. Summer weekends can be busier, but the beach is wide enough to work around foot traffic.

Elk Rapids Dam Beach (Elk Rapids)

Elk Rapids is incredibly versatile. You have sandy shoreline, beach grass, marina views, rock formations, and even rustic fencing textures all in one area. It’s easy to create multiple looks without relocating. Even when it’s busier earlier in the day, evenings tend to calm down beautifully. Sunrise here is also stunning.

You can see this location featured in Courtney and Jay’s engagement photos at Elk Rapids Dam Beach, where we incorporated both shoreline and greenery elements for variety.

Best for: Couples who want variety without switching locations.
Best season: Summer and early fall.
Notes: Easy access and parking. There’s room to walk further down the beach if needed, and marina elements add something a little different from a traditional shoreline.

Charlevoix Beach (Charlevoix)

Charlevoix Beach offers a classic Lake Michigan shoreline with a charming lighthouse nearby. Downtown Charlevoix is just minutes away, making it easy to pair beach photos with a second stop in town for something dressier and more playful.

Best for: Couples who want beach views paired with small-town charm.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Ample parking and easy access. This location pairs beautifully with downtown Charlevoix for a two-stop session.

Frankfort Beach (Frankfort)

Frankfort feels like a postcard lake town. The lighthouse adds character, and the beach itself is clean and open with beautiful evening light. With restaurants and small-town charm nearby, it’s a strong option for couples who want a relaxed but scenic feel.

Best for: Couples who love a quaint coastal atmosphere.
Best season: Summer and early fall.
Notes: Can be busier during peak summer, but very workable with thoughtful timing.

Empire Beach (Empire)

Empire Beach is gorgeous and centrally located near Sleeping Bear Dunes. The shoreline is beautiful, and the small lighthouse adds visual interest. It’s a popular spot in the summer, so we do have to be intentional about working around people, but the light here is consistently beautiful.

While this example is a family session, you can see the landscape and shoreline clearly in the Griesinger family session at Empire Beach in Northern Michigan, which gives you a good feel for how this location photographs.

Best for: Couples who love the Sleeping Bear area and don’t mind a little energy around them.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Expect more foot traffic in peak summer evenings.

Esch Beach

Esch Beach has beautiful dune views in the background with soft sand and beach grass that give the whole area a really natural Northern Michigan feel. Near the parking area there are also tall pine trees that can give a really nice woodsy feel before heading down to the beach. It can feel visually tucked away, but parking can be limited and it’s often busier than expected.

Best for: Couples who love dune backdrops and don’t mind a little flexibility.
Best season: Summer.
Notes: Parking can be tight. Planning ahead is helpful.

Scenic Overlooks & Dunes

If you’re drawn to dramatic views, rolling dunes, and sweeping Lake Michigan horizons, these locations offer some of the most iconic scenery in Northern Michigan. They feel cinematic, expansive, and incredibly romantic — especially at golden hour.

It’s important to note that dune and overlook locations often come with wind and light exposure. That movement can be beautiful and organic, but it’s something we plan for intentionally.

Empire Bluff Trail (Empire)

Empire Bluff is one of the most breathtaking overlooks in Northern Michigan. The trail is approximately a 10-minute walk in, not difficult, but something to plan for. Along the way, there are wooded sections, greenery, and even a small open field near the entrance. At the bluff itself, you’ll find sweeping Lake Michigan views, dune textures, pine areas, and beautiful boardwalk-style paths that photograph beautifully.

In early summer, flowers often pop up along the trail, adding even more dimension.

Best for: Couples who want dramatic views with a mix of dunes, greenery, and forest textures.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Expect wind at the overlook. Comfortable shoes for the walk are helpful.

You can see a full example of this location in my Empire Bluff engagement photos with Cameron and Brooke, where we leaned into movement and golden-hour light.

Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive – Stops 9 & 10 (Sleeping Bear Dunes)

Pierce Stocking offers some of the most expansive dune views in the area. The walk from parking to the overlook is very short — usually just a minute or two — making it one of the easiest ways to access dramatic scenery. You’ll find rolling dunes, beach grass, sandy textures, and panoramic Lake Michigan views all in one place.

You can see this location featured in AJ and Delaney’s Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive engagement photos, which highlight just how expansive and cinematic this setting can feel at golden hour.

Best for: Couples who want maximum impact with minimal hiking.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Wind is common. Entry to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore may require a park pass or fee.

Pyramid Point (Sleeping Bear Dunes Area)

Pyramid Point offers both wooded trail sections and an overlook with expansive views. The walk in is approximately 10 minutes and includes some uphill sections, so it’s slightly more of a hike than Pierce Stocking, but still manageable for most couples.

The mix of trail, greenery, and overlook makes this a strong option for couples who want both forest and lake views in one location.

You can see this setting featured in Mason and Mackenzie’s surprise proposal at Pyramid Point, which captures the scale and beauty of the overlook at golden hour.

Best for: Couples who love a little adventure and sweeping views.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: There is a moderate uphill walk. Wind at the overlook is common.

Mission Point Lighthouse (Old Mission Peninsula)

Mission Point Lighthouse offers a more rustic shoreline feel. The beach is rockier than traditional sandy beaches, with long stretches of shoreline and plenty of space to spread out. The lighthouse itself adds charm and architectural interest.

Best for: Couples who want a coastal look with a little historic character.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: The shoreline is rocky in areas. Parking is typically easy, and there’s plenty of room even if it’s busy.

Studios & Intimate Garden Settings

If you’re drawn to florals, structure, and a slightly more refined feel, these locations offer beautiful backdrops with a bit more control over the environment. They’re especially wonderful if you love romantic details, soft blooms, and a setting that feels thoughtfully designed.

These spots can also be a great option if you’re hoping to avoid strong winds or unpredictable dune conditions.

Botanical Gardens at Historic Barns Park (Traverse City)

The Botanical Gardens offer one of the most curated floral settings in Northern Michigan. The walled garden is especially stunning in peak bloom season, typically in August, but there are flowers and greenery throughout much of the growing season. There’s also a butterfly garden area that tends to peak in late summer, and occasionally you’ll see dozens of butterflies moving through the space.

Beyond the gardens, you’ll find open field areas and the historic barns themselves, which add subtle architectural interest and variety.

You can see the layout of the grounds in The Winter’s maternity session at the Botanical Gardens in Traverse City, which gives a good sense of the field space and walled garden setting.

Best for: Couples who love florals, garden structure, and a romantic, refined feel.
Best season: Mid-summer through early fall for peak blooms.
Notes: Bloom timing varies slightly year to year.

Glass Garden Studio (Private Greenhouse Setting)

Glass Garden Studio is a private greenhouse setting surrounded by seasonal wildflowers, creating an intimate and slightly editorial feel. Late summer is especially beautiful here, with wildflowers typically peaking from late August through early October, adding rich color and texture to the space.

There are also plans for additional seasonal plantings earlier in the summer, which may bring even more variety to the setting depending on the year.

Because this is a private property, sessions here require advance coordination.

Best for: Couples who want something intimate, unique, and slightly editorial.
Best season: Late summer through early fall for peak wildflowers.
Notes: Advance coordination is required due to the private nature of the property.

Secret Garden at Brys Estate (Old Mission Peninsula)

The Secret Garden at Brys Estate feels tucked away and romantic. You’ll find lavender and other seasonal blooms woven throughout the garden, along with vineyard views nearby. It’s easy to create both floral-forward and vineyard-inspired images in one cohesive setting.

This location feels intentional and refined — especially during peak lavender season — and pairs beautifully with the surrounding Old Mission Peninsula landscape.

Best for: Couples who want florals and vineyard views in one elevated location.
Best season: Mid-to-late summer, especially during lavender bloom.
Notes: Advance coordination is required, and there is typically a usage fee for sessions in the Secret Garden.

Vineyards & Estate Settings

If you’re drawn to something elegant and timeless, vineyard and estate locations offer structure, texture, and beautiful evening light. Old Mission Peninsula in particular provides sweeping vineyard rows, water views, and architecture that feels refined without being overdone.

These locations tend to photograph beautifully at golden hour, especially when the vineyard rows catch soft, directional light.

Bonobo Winery (Old Mission Peninsula)

Bonobo offers clean vineyard rows with beautiful water views nearby. The property feels polished and modern while still maintaining that relaxed Northern Michigan charm. There are a few subtle features — like their swing and patio areas — that can add variety to your gallery.

Best for: Couples who want a classic vineyard look with a slightly modern feel.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Always confirm availability and any session policies in advance.

Mari Vineyards (Old Mission Peninsula)

Mari Vineyards has a distinctive architectural feel, with a stone exterior that almost feels castle-like. The vineyard rows are expansive, and the structure itself adds drama and depth to photos. It’s a strong choice if you want something that feels elevated and slightly European-inspired.

Best for: Couples who want vineyard views with bold architectural elements.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Advance coordination may be required depending on timing.

Chateau Chantal (Old Mission Peninsula)

Chateau Chantal offers sweeping vineyard rows and beautiful views of both East and West Grand Traverse Bay. The setting feels romantic and open, especially in the evening when the light softens across the hills. The property has a classic Northern Michigan vineyard feel with expansive scenery.

Best for: Couples who love open views and a timeless vineyard atmosphere.
Best season: Summer and early fall.
Notes: Sunset timing here can be especially beautiful due to the elevated views.

Rove Estate Winery (Leelanau Peninsula)

Rove Estate sits higher up, offering vineyard rows paired with scenic overlooks. It combines the structure of vineyard lines with open horizon views, making it feel both elegant and expansive at the same time.

Best for: Couples who want vineyard rows and sweeping views in one setting.
Best season: Summer and early fall.
Notes: Wind can occasionally pick up due to the elevation.

Brys Estate (Old Mission Peninsula)

Beyond the Secret Garden, Brys Estate also offers vineyard views that feel clean and classic. The rows are beautifully maintained, and the property overall feels polished and romantic. When paired with the Secret Garden, it creates one of the most floral-forward vineyard experiences in Northern Michigan.

Best for: Couples who want vineyard elegance with the option for curated florals.
Best season: Mid-to-late summer for lavender; late spring through early fall for vineyard views.
Notes: The Secret Garden requires advance coordination and typically a fee.

Jolly Pumpkin / Mission Table (Old Mission Peninsula)

Jolly Pumpkin and Mission Table sit on a historic Old Mission Peninsula estate with a beautiful open lawn surrounded by mature trees and views toward West Grand Traverse Bay. The setting feels classic Northern Michigan—natural, relaxed, and especially beautiful when the leaves begin to change in fall. It’s a lovely option for couples who want an Old Mission Peninsula engagement session with scenic views and a peaceful, intimate atmosphere.

Best for: Couples who love mature trees, open lawn space, and Old Mission Peninsula views.
Best season: Fall, though late spring through early fall can also be beautiful.
Notes: Advance coordination is required for sessions on the property.

Orchards, Farms & Seasonal Blooms

If you’re drawn to soft florals, orchard rows, or something that feels distinctly Northern Michigan, this category is especially beautiful. These locations are often seasonal, which means timing matters — but when the blooms are at their peak, they’re absolutely worth it.

Because many of these are working farms or private properties, planning ahead is important.

Bayview Weddings at Gallagher Farms (Traverse City Area)

Bayview offers a mix of orchard rows, vineyard elements, and scenic overlook views, giving you multiple looks within one property. The elevated perspective paired with agricultural texture makes it feel both expansive and distinctly Northern Michigan.

In the spring, Bayview also has cherry blossom areas available for sessions, making it a strong option for couples hoping to incorporate blossoms into their engagement photos.

You can see the landscape and views throughout Delaney and AJ’s Bayview Weddings at Gallagher Farms wedding, which highlights the overlook and surrounding orchard beautifully.

Best for: Couples who want variety within one cohesive, elevated setting — especially if cherry blossoms are part of your vision.
Best season: Spring for blossoms; late spring through early fall for vineyard and overlook views.
Notes: Advance coordination is required, as the property hosts weddings and events.

Private Cherry Orchard (Williamsburg)

This private orchard setting is especially beautiful in bloom season. During late spring, the cherry blossoms create a soft, airy backdrop that feels distinctly Northern Michigan. The apple blossoms are also available in season, offering a similar romantic feel with slightly different texture and tone.

Because bloom timing is short and highly weather-dependent, planning is important. When the blossoms are at their peak, the entire orchard feels light-filled and almost ethereal.

You can see how this location photographs in the Ziegler family’s Northern Michigan cherry blossom family photos, which showcase the blossoms beautifully.

Best for: Couples dreaming of classic Northern Michigan blossom photos.
Best season: Spring (short bloom window).
Notes: Bloom timing varies year to year based on weather. Advance coordination is required.

Lavender Hill Farm (Boyne City Area)

Lavender Hill Farm is known for its vibrant lavender fields in mid-to-late summer. The rows of purple create a romantic and distinctive backdrop, and there are often additional wildflowers blooming around the property during the same time.

Best for: Couples who love color and something visually unique.
Best season: Mid-to-late summer during peak lavender bloom.
Notes: Lavender bloom is seasonal and timing matters.

Jacob’s Farm (Traverse City Area)

Jacob’s Farm offers rows of apple orchards that feel distinctly Northern Michigan. The symmetry of the trees creates beautiful depth in photos, especially later in the season when the orchard feels full and textured. In the fall, the setting takes on a warm, romantic tone that pairs beautifully with layered outfits and softer light.

It can also be a fun, interactive experience — during certain times of year, you-pick is available, which can add a natural, playful element to your session.

Best for: Couples who love orchard rows and a classic Northern Michigan aesthetic.
Best season: Late summer and fall.
Notes: Advance coordination is required, as the property also hosts weddings and events.

Wooded Trails & Natural Areas

If you’re drawn to something quieter and more organic, wooded trails and open natural areas offer a relaxed, intimate feel. These locations often provide a mix of forest texture, open fields, and water elements — and they tend to be less wind-heavy than dune overlooks.

They’re especially beautiful in fall when the color shifts, but many of these locations photograph well throughout the warmer months.

Brown Bridge Quiet Area (Kingsley)

Brown Bridge offers rolling fields, a small river, and a wooden bridge that adds charm and visual interest. The open field areas create soft, romantic backdrops, while the river overlook adds depth and dimension. It feels peaceful and slightly tucked away.

You can see this location featured in Austin and Kiara’s Northern Michigan engagement session at Brown Bridge, which highlights the open fields and river views beautifully.

Best for: Couples who love open fields, subtle water views, and a quieter setting.
Best season: Late summer and fall for warmth and color.
Notes: There is a short trail walk to reach some of the main photo areas, but it’s not far. Wildlife is occasionally visible, which adds to the natural feel.

Maple Bay Natural Area (Williamsburg)

Maple Bay Natural Area offers a mix of open field space and a small beach area with greenery and natural shoreline elements. It’s a strong option if you want a combination of meadow-like scenery and water without the scale of Lake Michigan beaches.

Best for: Couples who want field and shoreline variety in one stop.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: There is a short, easy walk (around five minutes) to access the main areas.

Olsen Bridge Trail (Traverse City)

Olsen Bridge Trail begins in a clearing surrounded by pine trees, which makes a beautiful spot for photos right away—especially in winter when you can walk right into the pines for a cozy forest feel. If you follow the trail farther back, you’ll find wooded paths and a wooden bridge that add even more variety to the setting. It’s a quiet, natural location that works beautifully for Northern Michigan engagement sessions.

Best for: Couples who love forest vibes and a quiet, intimate setting.
Best season: Winter, though it works well late spring through fall too.
Notes: Flat, easy walking paths make this a very accessible option for engagement photos.

Jack’s Landing

Jack’s Landing offers a mix of open field space and river views. It feels simple, natural, and understated — a good option if you’re drawn to quiet surroundings and open space.

Best for: Couples who prefer a relaxed, natural backdrop.
Best season: Summer and fall.

Charming Towns & Iconic Landmarks

If you’re drawn to architecture, texture, and a little more movement in your photos, these locations offer visual interest beyond nature alone. Brick buildings, historic structures, and small-town details can add personality and depth to your engagement session.

These spots pair beautifully with a scenic first location if you’re planning two stops.

Downtown Traverse City

Downtown Traverse City offers brick storefronts, alleyways, tree-lined streets, and architectural details that create strong visual texture. It’s a great option if you’re drawn to a slightly more urban feel while still keeping things relaxed and Northern Michigan in tone.

Best for: Couples who love architectural texture and downtown charm.
Best season: Late spring through fall.
Notes: There are several parking areas available, though some may require a small fee depending on timing.

Downtown Charlevoix (Charlevoix)

Downtown Charlevoix feels smaller and more quaint, with charming storefronts and beautiful seasonal flower displays. There’s a floral shop that decorates the front of its building beautifully during the warmer months, which can make for a stunning backdrop. The beach and lighthouse are just minutes away, making this easy to pair with shoreline photos.

Best for: Couples who love small-town charm with thoughtful details.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Pairs beautifully with Charlevoix Beach for a two-location session.

Mackinac Island

Mackinac Island offers a unique setting with historic architecture, waterfront views, horse-drawn carriages, and beautifully maintained grounds. From waterfront paths to garden areas and views near the Grand Hotel, there’s a lot of variety in one place.

Best for: Couples who want something iconic and slightly timeless.
Best season: Late spring through early fall.
Notes: Requires ferry access and additional planning for timing.

Fishtown (Leland)

Best for: Couples who love waterfront texture and historic charm.
Best season: Summer and early fall.
Notes: Can be busier during peak tourist season, especially mid-day.

Best for: Couples who love historic architecture with relaxed outdoor elements.
Best season: Winter through fall.
Notes: Easy access with multiple areas to explore within walking distance.

Choosing a Location That’s Meaningful to You

While this guide shares some of the most beautiful Northern Michigan engagement session locations, the most important question isn’t always “What’s the prettiest?” It’s “What feels like us?”

Some of my favorite sessions have taken place somewhere completely unexpected — a family cottage on the lake, the dock where you spend every summer, your favorite neighborhood coffee shop, a quiet stretch of road near home, even a mini golf course you love.

If you already have a location that feels personal, don’t worry if it’s not on this list. That’s not a limitation — it’s an opportunity.

Engagement sessions are about capturing this season of your life honestly. The setting should support your story, not replace it. We can always pair a meaningful location with something scenic nearby to create variety while keeping the experience relaxed and intentional.

If you’re unsure whether a location will photograph well, that’s what I’m here for. I’ll help you think through light, space, privacy, and timing so it feels effortless.

The goal isn’t perfection. It’s connection.

Frequently Asked Questions About Northern Michigan Engagement Session Locations

How do we choose the right season for our engagement session?

Each location in this guide includes a “Best season” note to help you see when it photographs at its strongest. Some Northern Michigan engagement session locations shine in summer, others are beautiful in fall, and a few are especially strong in winter because of evergreen trees or architectural elements.

The right season often depends on when your wedding is, how far in advance you’d like your engagement photos taken, and the overall look you’re drawn to. If you love florals and soft color, late spring or summer may be ideal. If you’re drawn to warm, cozy tones, fall may feel more natural. If you prefer clean lines and evergreen backdrops, winter can be incredibly beautiful.

Once you’ve chosen your season and location, you can use that information to guide your outfit choices as well. I walk through that more in my Engagement Session Style & Experience Guide above so everything feels cohesive and intentional.

Do we need permits for engagement sessions in Northern Michigan?

Some locations — especially within Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore — may require a park pass or entrance fee. Certain private properties, vineyards, and estates also require advance coordination or a usage fee. Once you’ve chosen your location, I’ll help guide you through anything that needs to be arranged ahead of time.

Can we choose a location that isn’t on this list?

Absolutely. While this guide covers many popular Northern Michigan engagement session locations, you’re never limited to these options. If you have a family property, favorite vacation spot, or sentimental location in mind, we can absolutely build your session around that.

Some of the most meaningful sessions happen in places that already feel personal to you.

How many locations should we choose for our engagement session?

Many couples choose two locations — typically one scenic location and one that feels more meaningful. If you decide on two, I recommend keeping them within about 10–15 minutes of each other so we can protect the best light and keep the experience relaxed rather than rushed.

What if it’s windy at the dunes or beach?

Wind is very common at dune overlooks and Lake Michigan beaches. It can create beautiful movement in photos, but it’s something we plan for intentionally. If you’d prefer something more controlled and less wind-heavy, garden, orchard, or vineyard settings may be a better fit.

How do we decide which location fits us best?

Start by asking what feels most like you. Are you drawn to dramatic views? Florals? Architecture? Water? Something meaningful and personal?

If you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help you narrow it down based on the season, your vision, and what will photograph beautifully at that time of year.
