The Winters’ Maternity Session at the Botanical Gardens in Traverse City

Some locations become part of a family’s story, and the Botanical Gardens in Traverse City is exactly that for Ali and Christian.

I photographed their engagement session here the year before. So when Ali reached out about documenting their maternity photos in the same place, I couldn’t have been more excited. Not long after this session, I also photographed their newborn photos here. Being able to document multiple seasons of a family’s story in one meaningful location is something I will always treasure.

Ali and Christian’s maternity session felt calm, intentional, and deeply connected. There’s something special about photographing couples who stay fully present with one another, especially during this in-between season before everything changes.

Why the Botanical Gardens Are Perfect for Maternity Photos

The Botanical Gardens in Traverse City are one of my favorite locations for maternity sessions. The gardens offer incredible variety, from lush greenery and seasonal blooms to open fields filled with soft, natural light.

Throughout the year, the space transforms. Spring and summer bring vibrant florals, while early fall adds warmth and texture. In September, hundreds of monarch butterflies often fill the gardens. It’s a truly magical experience. The venue also hosts beautiful weddings, which makes photographing families here even more meaningful as their stories continue to unfold.
