As a Northern Michigan family photographer, these are the sessions I’m drawn to most. The ones where kids can run freely, parents can slow down just a bit, and the moments unfold naturally.
Why Empire Beach Is Perfect for Family Photos
Empire Beach is one of my favorite locations for a Northern Michigan family session. With its soft sandy shoreline, wide-open Lake Michigan views, and space for kids to explore, it’s an ideal setting for families who want photos that feel relaxed and genuine.
As the sun began to set, the light softened and wrapped everything in that warm, golden glow. It created the perfect backdrop for both playful moments and quiet snuggles in between.
Letting Kids Be Kids
One of the best parts of this session was watching the kids play in the water, chase each other along the shoreline, and laugh without a care in the world. Those in-between moments — sandy toes, belly laughs, and spontaneous hugs — are often the ones families treasure most years from now.
Instead of forcing stillness, we leaned into movement. The result was a gallery that feels honest, joyful, and full of life.
